Summary: | In this report the feasibility of the freight transportation along the Sinú River as an alternative to improve the region's logistical performance is analyzed. Taking into account that the amount of cargo transportation along of the river has been reduced in the last decades, due to the development of road transportation and changes in the River morphology, the objective is to evaluate the viability of using the river as a transportation route to improve Cordoba's logistics. The idea is to develop a proposal for river transportation that minimizes operational and service cost, and more environmentally friendly in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, and at least as efficient as the road transportation. Finally, a comparison is made between modes of transportation, road and water (riversea) to determine their viability, in both economic and environmental terms. The results obtained indicate low CO2 emissions in water transportation; two out of the three vessels used as a sample have a lower impact on the environment compared to road transportation; economically, water transportation has competitive advantages over road transportation due to the lower operational cost. |
