La anticoncepción de emergencia es una estrategia médica que permite el control de la natalidad sin ser un método regular de planificación familiar. Su finalidad es prevenir el embarazo no deseado, cuando se ha tenido un coito, sin protección. Para precisar los fármacos hormonales y las intervenciones no hormonales se realizó revisión en las bases de datos Scielo (en español) y EBSCOhost, Embase, PubMed, OvidSP, ScienceDirec (en inglés). El dispositivo intrauterino de cobre, aplicado dentro de los primeros cinco días posteriores al coito, siempre ha sido la forma más eficaz para realizar anticoncepción de emergencia. Para el presente, la dosis única de acetato de ulipristal es la mejor alternativa para adelantar anticoncepción de emergencia hormonal. La atención a las mujeres debe ser de elevada calidad en cuanto a instrucciones y recomendaciones para el adecuado uso de anticoncepción de emergencia y la disposición para usar correctamente un método regular de planificación |

Its purpose is to prevent unplanned pregnancy, when there has been intercourse without protection. To determine the hormonal drugs and non-hormonal interventions, a bibliographic review was carried out in the following database: SciELO (in Spanish) and EBSCOhost, Embase, PubMed, OvidSP, ScienceDirec (in English). The copper intrauterine device, applied within the first five days after intercourse, has always been the most effective way to perform emergency contraception. Actually, a single dose of ulipristal acetate is the best alternative to advance hormonal emergency contraception.
