Was the action of the Nardal sisters not only of a pioneering nature, but also central from a conceptual point of view? And yet, as it is shown by the evolution of the vision of another woman writer, Maryse Condé, recognition of the primordial character of the Nardal sisters' action was slow coming. Joseph Zobel was one of the few writers to take up position in that period when exceptional women intellectuals were forgotten. To put it squarely, what place was allowed these women then, and what place do they claim?
