Summary:Assuming the training of students as reflective citizens, who can interpret the reality from school Mathematics, inquiry of aspects from Mathematics education arises. In this sense, this paper aims at the description of students’ actions and positioning in the setting up of a learning environment as the result of situated learning by putting into practice the necessary aspects that enhance the integrity of a constructive and reflective citizen in the construction of critical citizenship. Giving this, this research was guided by a qualitative approach with descriptive and comprehensive features, focusing on a population of ninth graders from a Basic Secondary Educational Institution in the Colombian context. As a result of this process, it was concluded that the setting up of the learning environment by students is the result of the new visions about what school Mathematics can be, allowing to understand that Mathematic has the purpose of organizing part of the citizens’ reality.
