Resumen Este estudio explora el uso del lenguaje, las interacciones lingüísticas y el desarrollo de la identidad de género entre tres niños colombo-americanos de 4, 6 y 8 años de edad, en diversos contextos multiculturales, centrándose principalmente en sus experiencias en Okinawa, Japón. La investigación examina estas dinámicas a travez del uso de métodos cualitativos como la observación, entrevistas y dibujos con narrativas orales. En el estudio, los niños, parte de una familia Americana en una base militar en Okinawa, asisten a una escuela local donde el japonés es el idioma principal. Sin embargo, el español también está presente en casa a través de interacciones en línea con miembros hispanos de la familia. A pesar de esto, el inglés sigue siendo la preferencia principal de los niños, también utilizado durante las actividades en la communidad de la base. Los hallazgos enfatizan las dinámicas del lenguaje, las interacciones de género y la construcción de la identidad multicultural. Los participantes muestran competencia linguistica en español, inglés y japonés, priorizando la comunicación efectiva, donde las influencias culturales dan forma a los roles de género, con los participantes desafiando las normas. La construcción de la identidad multicultural implica una interacción compleja entre el lenguaje, la cultura y la partucipación, evidente en las narrativas. El estudio ofrece ideas para educadores e iniciativas de políticas educativas y a su vez sugiere direcciones futuras de investigación para explorar las influencias de los medios de comunicacion, llevar a cabo estudios longitudinales y promover el desarrollo del lenguaje y la inclusividad cultural en la educación. En general, subraya la importancia de comprender la relación entre la cultura, el lenguaje y las actitudes de los niños en la educación multicultural. Using qualitative methods like observation, interviews, and drawing with oral narratives, the research examines these dynamics. The children, part of an American family on a military base in Okinawa, attend a local school where Japanese is the primary language. However, Spanish is also present at home through online interactions with Hispanic family members. Despite this, English remains the children's main language preference, also used during base activities. The findings emphasize language dynamics, gender interactions, and multicultural identity construction. Participants display proficiency across Spanish, English, and Japanese, prioritizing effective communication. Cultural influences shape gender roles, with participants challenging norms. Multicultural identity construction involves a complex interplay of language, culture, and engagement, evident in narratives and storytelling. The study offers insights for educators and policymakers and suggests future research directions to explore media influences, conduct longitudinal studies, and promote language development and cultural inclusivity in education.
