| Summary: | This article summarizes the progress of the research Urban growth and planning: facing the challenges of a growing social inequality. The case of Córdoba, Argentina, which was funded by the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina (CONICET ). This paper studies the process of expansion of a middle sized city and analyzes the effects of reduced control of urban sprawl in the incorporation of population and land, in density variation, and in public transportation system. It also inquires in the possibilities offered by normative planning to achieve goals of equity in urban growth within the context of the policies promoted during the neoliberal period. Finally, it provides some thoughts regarding growth planning. |
