Description
Summary:Copper powders were obtained through gas-solid reaction from a metalworking copper waste, known as copper slag. The copper slag is generated in the copper melting process and is classified as a hazardous waste under 4741 Decree of 2005 due to the negative effect that can have on people, fauna, flora and hydric sources. The methodology involved was the design a reduction system through rotary furnace with controlled atmosphere to ensure the reduction of copper oxides present in the slag at temperatures between 400 ° C and 500 ° C with reduction times around 1 and 2 hours. The raw material and further reduced powders were characterized through Scanning Electron Microscopy-Dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF). Finally, we achieved copper powders from the waste through the solid-gas reaction.
