Background: Vaccination against HPV in girls aged 9 to 14 years is a fundamental strategy to achieve the elimination of cervical cancer, however, its coverage in Colombia is far below the World Health Organization's recommendation. Objective: To evaluate the effect of a behavioral intervention named Superprotegidas to increase the rate of vaccination against HPV in girls and adolescents between 9 and 14 years old, students of official educational institutions in the municipality of Envigado. Methods: Two-arm controlled clinical experimental study. The sample consisted of 154 participants, of which 42 pairs of girls and caregivers (n=84) were in the intervention group and 35 pairs (n=70) in the control group. The intervention was developed under the COM-B theoretical model. Baseline was measured for sociodemographic data and behavioral factors for all participants, the primary outcome was the application of the vaccine. Results: In the intervention group 52.4% were vaccinated, compared to 28.6% in the control group, with an OR of 2.75 (95% CI: 1.06-7.12). Predictors of vaccination were participation in the intervention and the educational level of the child. Post-intervention assessment of behavioral factors in parents demonstrated significant changes in capability, motivation, opportunity and self-efficacy. Conclusions: The Superprotegidas intervention had a positive effect on the participants who received it and could be implemented in contexts with similar sociodemographic characteristics.
