Introduction: Human evolution and the adoption of standing have led to changes in the pelvic floor to resist intra-abdominal pressure and prevent disorders such as urinary incontinence and organ prolapse. Factors such as obesity, pregnancy, and high-impact exercise increase the risk of these disorders. Recent comprehensive studies have improved understanding of pelvic floor function Objective: To know how high-impact activities can increase the risk of developing pelvic floor dysfunctions in female athletes or amateurs. Methodology: The present study is a literature review with a qualitative approach that compiles scientific articles published during the first period of the year 2024, specifically between the months of April and May. For this, the PubMed, Scopus, Springer, BASE, and Google Scholar databases have been used. All articles that talk about women who performed high-impact elite sports or as amateurs and that were published between 2013 and 2024 were included. Those articles and theses that talk about women with pelvic floor dysfunction due to pregnancy, postpartum or other pathologies that were not related to high-impact sports were excluded. 17 duplicate articles were eliminated with the Rayyan bibliographic reference manager, 22 articles that were published in 2012 or later were excluded. Conclusion: Urinary incontinence in athletes is a significant problem that requires appropriate attention. Trainers, doctors, physiotherapists and athletes must recognize the importance of pelvic floor care to prevent and treat these dysfunctions. It is essential to carry out early assessments and work interdisciplinary on strategies for breathing exercises and strengthening the pelvic floor to prevent incontinence and ensure the quality of life and sports performance of athletes.
