The aims of this research were: 1) to evaluate the psychometric properties of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), analyzing three scoring methods (Likert, GHQ, and CGHQ); 2) to assess the invariance by sex and age; and 3) to examine the relationship between the GHQ-28 and burnout syndrome using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The sample consisted of 435 Spanish prison officers. The validity and invariance of the GHQ-28 were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and network analysis. The results showed that the four-factor GHQ-type model (GHQ-28²) provided the best fit, followed by the Likert-type model (GHQ-28¹). However, the two-factor model, however, showed a poor fit (GHQ-28³). Both the GHQ-28¹ and GHQ-28² models demonstrated invariance by both sex and age, supporting their use across different groups. In contrast, the GHQ-28³ model was invariant by sex but not by age. Significant correlations were observed between burnout and psychological distress. Emotional exhaustion was notably associated with depression, social dysfunction, anxiety, insomnia, and somatization. These findings suggest that the GHQ-28 is a valid tool for detecting psychological distress in the prison setting, particularly when using the four-factor model with GHQ-type scoring.PregradoPsicólogo31 páginasapplication/pdfhttps://hdl.handle.net/10819/25360spaMedellínFacultad de PsicologíaMedellínPsicologíainfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Aloba, O., Opakunle, T., & Ogunrinu, K.
