Description
Summary:This paper addresses the problem of political participation and representation in the Colombian context. It defends the idea of the antagonistic and politics as possibilities to transform the political and social structures. In this way, it pretends to understand society as a process of constant tension, open not only to regulation but also to the creative impulse of conflict. Without such elements we could not refer to an authentic political participation, since society would be condemned to be a closed and harmonious system in which there would not be space for antagonism, germ of participation and social change. The first part of this paper provides a brief conceptualization of society in which the antagonistic practices are fundamental to give way to participative and representative relationships, subject of the second part of the text. The third part, gives a succinct historical count of the schemes of participation in the recent history of Colombia. Finally, the political and social achievements and successes of the Constitution of 1991 are evaluated, as well as the challenges that defy the spirit of the participative relationships.
