INTRODUCCIÓN: Durante etapas avanzadas de la vida es posible que se presenten cambios en los procesos mentales encargados de regular y controlar de manera flexible los pensamientos y comportamientos humanos. Entender, qué se ha investigado en la actualidad sobre las funciones ejecutivas en adultos mayores es importante, para comprender la manera de propiciar un envejecimiento saludable. OBJETIVO: Identificar las tendencias actuales en investigación en cuanto al funcionamiento ejecutivo de las personas mayores (60 años) con o sin alteraciones cognitivas. METODOLOGÍA: Revisión narrativa de la literatura con búsqueda sistemática, se recurrió a las bases de datos PubMed, Scielo y Science Direct, considerando artículos publicados entre 2015 y 2021, en inglés y español. De los cuales se tomaron 40 estudios para esta esta revisión. RESULTADOS: La búsqueda de las bases de datos arrojó 2331 registros, después de quitar 1681 artículos que no contaban con los criterios de inclusión, se dejan 650 artículos debido a que cumplieron con los criterios de búsqueda. Todos los registros se examinaron como se detalla anteriormente, dejando un total de 40 artículos que se incluirán en la revisión. En este estudio se utilizaron las siguientes categorías de análisis: fluidez, semántica, lenguaje y fluidez léxica. CONCLUSIONES: De acuerdo a la revisión llevada a cabo, fue posible concluir que las tendencias actuales en investigación en torno al funcionamiento ejecutivo de personas adultas mayores de 60 años con o sin alteraciones cognitivas, se concentran en las alteraciones neurocognitivas, las condiciones psicológicas, las actividades de la vida diaria, las actividades dirigidas a la mejora de las funciones ejecutivas |

It is important to understand what current research has been done on executive functions in elderly to understand how to promote healthy aging. OBJECTIVE: To identify current trends in research on executive functioning in older adults (60 years old) with or without cognitive impairment. METHODOLOGY: Narrative literature review with systematic search, the databeses in which the search was carried out were to PubMed, Scielo and Science Direct databases, considering articles published between 2015 and 2021, in English and Spanish. They finally included 40 studies for this review. RESULTS: The search of the databases yielded 2331 records, after removing 1681 articles that did not have the inclusion criteria, 650 articles are left because they met the search criteria. All the records were examined as detailed above, leaving a total of 40 articles to be included in the review. The following categories of analysis were used in this study: fluency, semantics, language, and lexical fluency.
