Description
Summary:This text has been written based on the Final Report for research made on verbal communication representations amongst parents and children from three generations. Popular uses of rhetorical figures in middle class elders, adults, and young subjects are studied through a discourse analysis, inquiring about its relation to each generations contexts and social practices characteristics. The discourse analysis shows that rhetorical forms fulfill the subtle function of legitimizing and maintaining the hegemonic practices and social representations of each generation. The various discourses on family crisis in communication usually hide the emergence of other alternative practices and representations which are opposed to the ones dominant. Yet, rhetoric operates in the dominant order, it opens alternatives of theorization and intervention in a critical direction, tuned in with the recognition of plurality and difference.
