Description
Summary:OBJECTIVE: To determine the hearing and communication characteristics of children between the ages of 2 and 5 who attend the El Velero Community Children's Home. METHODOLOGY: This research is of a cross-sectional descriptive observational type. Children from 2 to 5 years of age who attend the Velero Community Children's Home in the Pasacaballos Corregimiento were taken as the population, the vast majority, natives of that locality. No sample calculation was carried out, since a non-probabilistic sampling was done for convenience and the data obtained through descriptive analysis were tabulated through the Excel tool. RESULTS: The population selected for convenience consisted of 57 children. The ages of 3 and 4 years predominated with 40.4%, the sex that predominated was male with 54.4%, 47.4% of the children are in the nursery, 8.8% have a medical diagnosis, 77.2% have not presented diseases and 22.8 % have presented some such as acute otitis media, acute tonsillitis, bronchitis, urinary tract infection, etc. Within the pre-peri-postnatal history, only 1 child had low birth weight, 5.3% was born before 30 weeks of gestation, none were in the Neonatal ICU for more than 30 days and 7% had some complication before. during or after birth. Within the comprehensive and expressive evaluation, and the vestibular evaluation, all are within the parameters of normality. CONCLUSIONS: It was possible to characterize the auditory and communicative state of children aged 2 to 5 years in the town of Pasacaballos, highlighting that the largest population is within the normal ranges of the Auditory and Communicative Assessment Instrument (VALE).).
