Summary:The purpose of this study, with a quantitative approach and a descriptive-correlational scope, was to describe the relationship between causal attributions and academic performance in students of a private university in the city of Cartagena, to fulfill this objective, two scales were applied to the subjects, the attributional style sub-scale (SEAT-01) and the Record of perception of academic performance, effort and achievement. It was carried out at the University of San Buenaventura with the students of the Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, who through a convenience sampling, made up a sample of 20 subjects. Regarding the results, it was found that the only statistically significant negative correlation was between the perception of effort and the predominance of external causal attributions, with respect to the others, a negative correlation was reported between the perception of academic performance and the predominance of causal attributions external, a negative correlation is also observed between perception of effort and the predominance of external causal attributions, finally, it was found that the greater the predominance of external causal attributions, the less use of the subjects..
