Summary:This article deals with the presentation of a theoretical and a practical proposal of a reverse logistics system based in Plan-DoCheck-Act (PDCA) cycle for the management of hospital waste with Colombian Health Care Providers Institutions. The used methodology is based on a descriptive research and case studies focused on the review and analysis of concepts of reverse logistics, the act 2676 of year 2000 and the Manual of Procedures for Hospital Waste Management from the Ministry of Social Protection. An assessment of their impact on University Health Care Providers Institutions is also made. From this research results an innovative methodology for designing reverse logistics systems based on existing standards that could be applicable to any Colombian Health Care Providers Institutions, offering an approach for its planning, execution, control and performance searching its efficiency, productivity and environmental care.
