Summary:Worldwide the problem about informal labor is still current in many countries, this condition may cause that the health and safety conditions of workers not to be appropriate. In Bocachica, a population near to Cartagena de Indias located in Tierra Bomba island, the situation occurs in the restaurants of typical food located in the tourist influx areas. In this sense, the purpose of this study is to characterize the labor conditions of the typical restaurants from the beaches of the tourist area of Bocachica in Cartagena, Colombia. A descriptive study of transverse cut was carried out; the safety and hygiene risks were identified using the GTC 45 Colombian quality standard, and a sociodemographic survey was conducted to sociodemographically characterize the restaurants workers. Five typical restaurants were found: five of them are family businesses, the other one is a micro-enterprise. The main risks are fires and burns from handling hot containers; regarding hygiene conditions, there is a chemical risk from exposure to coal smoke. Additionally, there is not aqueduct service in Bocachica, so sanitary conditions are also a major danger
