Summary: | Caring for water sources has been one of the greatest challenges for the mining sector in Colombia, given that good mining practices can preserve or even improve the Water Quality Index (WQI) of micro-basins. Segovia, Antioquia is known for being one of the municipalities with the greatest wealth of gold ore in the subsoil. Currently, the Colombo Canadiense Grancolombigold company has been developing its gold mining, exploration and beneficiation operations in this jurisdiction for the last 10 years. However, its predecessor, Frontino Gold Mines, was a pioneer in the 19th century. The environmental policies of this organization include the adequate management of renewable natural resources, as well as the control, prevention, mitigation and compensation of the environmental impacts associated with its operation. The Peñitas Creek is one of the nascent alveoli in the La Cianurada Basin, which is of moderate importance to both rural and urban Segovia. For this purpose, using GIS tools, a spatial-temporal model of the ICA of this source is made, carrying out geostatistical analyses for the selection of the best IDW deterministic interpolator or prediction, such as the ordinary Kriging. The above, in order to understand the behavior of the physicochemical conditions of the micro-basin, as well as the environmental commitment of the surrounding mining units. |
