Este proyecto de investigación tiene como objetivo describir las características de los psicoterapeutas y la de los pacientes que facilitan u obstaculizan el proceso psicoterapéutico. Se realizó una revisión documental de publicaciones entre el año 1986 y el año 2024. Con ello, se resaltó la importancia del rol de ambos actores dentro del proceso psicoterapéutico. Se evidenció que una relación terapéutica sólida, basada en la confianza, es un factor clave para la eficacia de la terapia ya que, se halló que una buena alianza facilita la esperanza, el trabajo en conjunto y disminuye la deserción. Asimismo, se evidenció que características tanto del terapeuta como del paciente, así como la insatisfacción con el terapeuta o el tratamiento, inciden en la adherencia y deserción del proceso, de la misma forma en su impacto a corto y largo plazo. Adicional, se detectó que factores sociodemográficos, externos, relacionados con la terapia y el diagnostico están asociados a la deserción prematura. Finalmente, se encontró que la orientación multicultural del terapeuta genera un impacto en los resultados. La comprensión integral de estos factores interrelacionados permite analizar y profundizar en diversas variables en virtud de optimizar la práctica clínica y la efectividad de la psicoterapia. |

A literature review of publications from 1986 to 2024 was conducted. This highlighted the importance of the role of both actors within the psychotherapeutic process. It was evident that a strong therapeutic relationship, based on trust, is a key factor for therapy effectiveness, as a good alliance was found to facilitate hope, collaborative work, and reduce dropout rates. Furthermore, it was shown that characteristics of both the therapist and the patient, as well as dissatisfaction with the therapist or treatment, influence adherence to and dropout from the process, as well as its short- and long-term impact. Additionally, it was detected that sociodemographic and external factors, as well as those related to therapy and diagnosis, are associated with premature termination. Finally, it was found that the therapist's multicultural orientation has an impact on the outcomes.
