Summary: | This article makes a brief outline of the history of the concept of “fatness” in the Middle Ages up to the present idea of “obesity” as a disease, understanding from the perspective of the subject of the psychoanalysis the implications from the unconscious towards the body image of those who undergo treatment for obesity with bariatric surgery. Also a reflection is made about the role of psychology in these care protocols, regarding the peak of the bariatric surgery as a response of medical science to the recurrence of the so called obesity. |
