Estudios preclínicos y clínicos con animales y humanos sugieren que las mujeres podrían ser más vulnerables a dichos efectos. Sin embargo y dado que la variable sexo ha sido solo recientemente incluida en los estudios, la evidencia actual, aunque sugestiva, requiere de más investigación que contribuya a llenar los vacíos al respecto. El presente estudio pretende brindar información que permita conocer, de forma detallada, los efectos del consumo de alcohol crónico, de inicio temprano, en una mujer de 58 años. Así mismo, contando con imágenes diagnósticas sugestivas de atrofia cerebral, las pruebas aplicadas se han interpretado a la luz de este factor. Se utilizaron instrumentos evaluativos y literatura de la neuropsicología clínica, la neurología, y la psicología clínica, para recabar información sobre la posible génesis, evolución y estado cognitivo actual de esta paciente. Se identificaron déficits en control inhibitorio, planeación, flexibilidad, y toma de decisiones. Considerando características como edad de inicio de consumo, patrón actual de ingesta y antecedentes de atrofia cerebral, este estudio de caso, interpretado a la luz de la literatura actual y a los vacíos en la información existente brinda información relevante para el reconocimiento de efectos deletéreos del alcohol en una paciente con las características previamente señaladas.

Preclinical and clinical studies made on human subjects and Animal subjects suggest that women could be more vulnerable to those effects. Nevertheless, as variable sex has been included only in recent studies, even though current evidence is suggestive, it needs more investigation that allows to fill the gaps about it. This study seeks to provide information that allows to know in detail the effects of early beginning chronic alcohol consumption, on a 58-year-old woman. Likewise, having diagnostic images that suggest brain atrophy, applied tests were analyzed under the light of that factor. This study used evaluation instruments and literature from clinical neuropsychology, neurology, and clinical psychology, to collect information about the possible origin, evolution, and current cognitive state of the patient. This study identified a deficit on planning, flexibility and decision making.
