Description
Summary:Green areas are essential for life, plants are the only ones capable of injecting oxygen into the atmosphere, a vital element for the human race. Plants reduce carbon dioxide (CO2), prevent erosion, improve the climate and, even so, the rate of disappearance of green areas is rapid. Either because society does not manage to raise awareness, or because short-term priorities are always different, the problem deepens and worsens day by day (CONAFOVI, 2005, p.13).The fragmentation of the forests is one of the main causes of the loss of biodiversity, not only in El Valle de Aburrá, but also in Colombia and in the world, attributing responsibility to man because of his practices, needs and indifference. This research is developed with the aim of generating environmental awareness in citizens and restructuring the artificial component based on the natural component, which is essential for life, thus generating ecological connectivity that allows the proper functioning of ecosystem ser vices. The northwestern zone ecological corridor of Medellín is a pilot project of the network of metropolitan ecological corridors that seeks to recover ecological connectivity in the El Valle de Aburrá, generating continuity in the natural component and repowering the streams, reconfiguring the urban landscape and recovering biodiversity in the city, and in turn, at a strategic point, the Environmental Conser vation Unit supporting research and educational processes of institutions
