Description
Summary:The students of the Department of Quindío - Colombia, have often ranked second-to-last nationally in mathematics and natural sciences in the tests Saber. This situation was the reason to carry out a descriptive correlational research, in order to learn about the types of learning generated by students on these fields, taking grades 5 and 9 as samples. We used two instruments administered to students (learning strategies used and types of learning promoted by teachers), a questionnaire administered to teachers (didactic strategies for teaching). It was found that the students use regulation, metacognition, elaboration, evaluation and support the most. The types of learning used by the teachers are varied and used in approximately the same percentage: for discovery, significant, constructivist, behavioral and rote learning. The most used didactic methodology by professors is the problem method, the traditional classroom instruction, the interrogation and the discussion method. The seminar and directed reading are less used.
