Objetivo: Revisión narrativa en donde se seleccionaron artículos originales, en versión completa, que tenían como objetivo determinar las características o que dieran cuenta de las habilidades lingüísticas y cognitivas de las personas mayores de 60 años. Métodos: Utilizando PubMed, ScienDirect y Scielo, se completó una búsqueda de literatura sobre las características o que dieran cuenta de las habilidades lingüísticas y cognitivas de las personas mayores de 60 años. Resultados: El 100% los estudios (n = 34) abordaban como objetivo las habilidades lingüísticas y el estado cognitivo de las personas mayores de 60 años. La mayoría de los estudios (n = 19) son longitudinales y 13 estudios transversales, los cuales se enmarcan dentro de un enfoque cuantitativo (n = 31) y solo tres siguen un enfoque cualitativo. Conclusión: Se puede afirmar que las habilidades lingüísticas y cognitivas se desarrollan a lo largo de la vida. Estas investigaciones nos demuestran que el lenguaje y la cognición expresan realidades psicológicas, las cuales se manifiestan a través de las experiencias que les anteceden expresado en pensamientos y como el procesamiento lingüístico y cognitivo se desarrolla con la activación de diferentes áreas del cerebro. Cada una de estas habilidades va a estar influenciada por la cultura y el desempeño de la persona en la sociedad, por lo que en el envejecimiento se podrán notar variables comunicativas y de procesamiento de información. Donde el organismo creará ajustes con el fin de mantener un desempeño en las habilidades comunicativas y de procesamiento de información durante toda su vida. |

Métodos: Utilizando PubMed, ScienDirect y Scielo, se completó una búsqueda de literatura sobre las características o que dieran cuenta de las habilidades lingüísticas y cognitivas de las personas mayores de 60 años. Resultados: El 100% los estudios (n = 34) abordaban como objetivo las habilidades lingüísticas y el estado cognitivo de las personas mayores de 60 años. La mayoría de los estudios (n = 19) son longitudinales y 13 estudios transversales, los cuales se enmarcan dentro de un enfoque cuantitativo (n = 31) y solo tres siguen un enfoque cualitativo. Conclusión: Se puede afirmar que las habilidades lingüísticas y cognitivas se desarrollan a lo largo de la vida. Estas investigaciones nos demuestran que el lenguaje y la cognición expresan realidades psicológicas, las cuales se manifiestan a través de las experiencias que les anteceden expresado en pensamientos y como el procesamiento lingüístico y cognitivo se desarrolla con la activación de diferentes áreas del cerebro. Cada una de estas habilidades va a estar influenciada por la cultura y el desempeño de la persona en la sociedad, por lo que en el envejecimiento se podrán notar variables comunicativas y de procesamiento de información.
