Description
Summary:Sarcomas associated with the feline injection site were initially related to the administration of adjuvanted vaccines against ViLeF and Rabia promulgated by a law in Pennsylvania, however over time it was determined that other elements and substances were related to the development of this type of neoplasias, and that in general elements capable of triggering a chronic inflammatory reaction injected subcutaneously can cause sarcomagenesis. This type of neoplasia is characterized by localized subcutaneous tissue and areas frequently used to vaccinate as the inter-scapular area, histologically giant neoplastic cells with marked cellular pleomorphism, high mitotic rates and an inflammatory infiltrate composed of lymphocytes and macrophages are some Important features; the definitive diagnosis is achieved by incisional biopsy; cytology, excisional biopsy and TRU-CUT have little diagnostic value. In general the recommended treatment includes a multimodal approach with the incorporation of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, and in the adjuvant context immunotherapy can be implemented; however, the therapeutic options implemented will aim to reduce the risks of local tumor recurrence, which is the main problem of this type of neoplasias, prolong the life expectancy of the patient and reduce the risks of metastasis, which although rare may occur, the lung being the organ most affected. The purpose of this monograph is to compile information about the etiology, classification, epidemiology, diagnostic and therapeutic options of cutaneous sarcomas at the injection site in domestic cats
