description |
Tuberculosis (TB) is characterized by a chronic and infectious disease caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These types of bacteria mostly infect the lungs, but can spread to bones and meninges; however, there is the possibility of its prevention and treatment. This type of bacteria becomes resistant to almost all antituberculosis drugs, which makes it difficult to control the disease, which in turn is a motivation for the development of new drugs and treatments. In relation to antibiotic resistance, tuberculosis (TB) can be classified into one of the three main types: drug resistant tb (tb-ds), multidrug resistant tb (mdr-tb), or extensively drug resistant tb- Xdr). On the other hand, the polyhydroxylated derivatives of C60 fullerene have amphipathic and antimicrobial characteristics. Fullerols comprise a functionalized form of fullerene C60, from which biological properties have been determined as a new therapeutic alternative. In this work the antimicrobacterial activity of the polyhydroxylated fullerol derivative on Mycobacterium smegmatis, an environmental mycobacteria, was evaluated by the microdilution technique and microtiter well. The obtained fullerol has a growth inhibitory effect of M. smegmatis at concentrations of 0.5 mg/mL. The compound obtained is characterized by spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR, TGA and UV / VIS), elemental analysis and qualitative methods to dilute its structure. |
