The participative study between academy and community, carried out by means of a physical-spatial, social, normative and urban management analysis, made it possible to concretize urban-architectural proposals in response to their main needs. With the approach to the community, diagnoses were made and architectural proposals were formulated that would help improve social, physical-space and safety conditions. The process ended with the moment of socialization of these proposals and the direction of their future materialization.Esta investigación avanzó hacia la formulación de alternativas para el mejoramiento barrial y la posible legalización del asentamiento humano informal Puerto Rico, ubicado en la ciudad de Armenia, Colombia. El estudio participativo entre academia y comunidad, llevado a cabo por medio de un análisis físico-espacial, social, normativo y de gestión urbana, permitió concretar propuestas urbano-arquitectónicas ante sus principales necesidades. Con la aproximación a la comunidad se realizaron diagnósticos y se formularon propuestas urbano-arquitectónicas que ayudarían a mejorar las condiciones sociales, físico-espaciales y de seguridad.
