The article describes why the bamboo is an important natural and economic resource in the foregoing geographical area and presents some of the technological uses of this resource. Finally, the paper shows the cultural impact that the use of bamboo is having in the region.Este trabajo intenta dar una panorámica general frente al proceso de institucionalización de la guadua como uno de los principales recursos del eje cafetero. El mismo que jugó un papel fundamental en la reconstrucción del eje cafetero en 1999, y que hoy por hoy se viene constituyendo en uno de los productos banderas de ésta región. Para lograr dicho cometido en un primer momento de presenta la guadúa como recurso natural y económico de la región y, en un segundo momento se presentan algunos elementos tecnológicos utilizados en la industria guadúera.
