Is Mistreatment Traumatic?¿Es traumático el maltrato?This article seeks to answer the question of whether or not child abuse is traumatic. To do so, the article relies on Sigmund Freud's and Jacques Lacan's psychoanalytic theories and on interviews with children under protection. In addition, the article assesses how mistreatment is defined under the Infancy and Adolescence Code and contrasts this evaluation with the psychoanalytical findings.Este artículo, derivado de la investigación titulada , presenta la elaboración construida en torno a uno de sus objetivos, el cual buscó dilucidar si la vivencia del maltrato propinado por los padres es o no traumática para el sujeto y qué es lo que se constituye como traumático en dicha experiencia. Esta pregunta supone, al menos de entrada, no hacer equivaler maltrato y trauma, así como no pensar el trauma en términos del acontecimiento, es decir, la magnitud del suceso o la gravedad de la lesión causada, sino de la realidad psíquica. Para responder estos cuestionamientos se tuvieron en cuenta tanto la teoría psicoanalítica del trauma, especialmente los desarrollos de Sigmund Freud y de Jacques Lacan, como lo hallado en algunos testimonios obtenidos a través de entrevistas realizadas a niños que se encontraban bajo medida de protección. Así mismo se abordan inicialmente algunas consideraciones sobre el maltrato infantil presentes en el Código de la Infancia y la Adolescencia, para luego contrastarlas con las conceptualizaciones psicoanalíticas.
