The article is divided into three parts. The first describes the origins, rationale and methodology of the research project. The second part presents the results obtained from the collected empirical data. Finally, the third section proposes a model for the development of e-science in Colombia, under which social actors and advanced technological infrastructure provided by the academic networks are integrated and turn into transformative elements of Colombia's scientific reality and socio-economic development.Este artículo presenta los resultados finales del proyecto de investigación: "Estado, desarrollo y perspectivas de las Redes Regionales Académicas de Alta Velocidad (RRAAV)", inscrito en el Centro de Investigaciones de la Universidad Católica Popular del Risaralda, en el marco de la convocatoria interna 006 del 2006. El documento se encuentra estructurado de manera tal que, en una primera sección, se realiza la presentación formal del proyecto, enfatizando en sus orígenes, justificación y metodología seguida.
