The results show that the prevailing typology is extensive; the authority model, the democratic one, and there is no direct relationship between family typologies and authority models. It is believed necessary to create spaces that help parents and guardians to understand and analyze their parenting styles and clarify the exercise of authority.Esta investigación se realizó en tres instituciones educativas del Eje Cafetero. El objetivo es comprender la relación entre tipologías familiares y estilos de autoridad en las familias. Es una investigación cualitativa, que contó con los instrumentos encuesta, entrevista semiestructurada y grupo focal. Los resultados muestran que la tipología que prevalece es la extensa; el modelo de autoridad, el democrático, y no existe una relación directa entre las tipologías familiares y los modelos de autoridad.
