The work seeks to clarify the gaps in relation to regional historiography on the issue of housing and its different periods of urban development in the city, with the objective of considering the strengths and weaknesses for future years of urban planning that include mass housing and / or social housing component. Likewise, the choice of a much more specific and integral research represents an opportunity to create spaces for reflection on citizenship.El artículo pretende exponer la metodología, los lineamientos generales y los avances alcanzados en la primera fase de una investigación acerca de la vivienda pública en la ciudad de Pereira, Colombia. El trabajo busca clarificar los vacíos en relación con la historiografía regional en el tema de la vivienda y sus diferentes periodos de desarrollo urbanístico en la ciudad, con el objetivo de considerar los aciertos y desaciertos para futuros ejercicios de planeación urbana que incluyan el componente de vivienda masiva y/o vivienda de interés social.
