Facultad de Ciencias Humanas, Sociales y de la Educación, Pereira, 2009En uno de los barrios más pobres y peligrosos de la ciudad de Pereira, vive Wendy Melissa Mejía, una travesti de 44 años, líder de la comunidad LGBT de la ciudad, quien trabaja como estilista en un pequeño salón de belleza que adecuó en su propia casa, y además lucha diariamente por defender los derechos de personas con su misma condición sexual. Hace un año se lanzó como candidata del Partido Conservador al Concejo de Dosquebradas, Risaralda, trabajando, sin esconderse por su rol de género y homosexualidad. Esta historia de vida se cruza con la lucha activista por los derechos humanos/sexuales que se ha vivido en Colombia y con los comentarios de políticos, activistas, teóricos y ciudadanos que perciben de formas diferentes la integración de la comunidad LGBT a la sociedad pereirana.In one of the poorest and most dangerous neighborhoods in the city of Pereira, lives Wendy Melissa Mejía, a 44-year-old transvestite, leader of the city's LGBT community, who works as a stylist in a small beauty salon that she adapted into her own home, and also fights daily to defend the rights of people with the same sexual condition. A year ago, Risaralda was launched as a candidate of the Conservative Party to the Dosquebradas Council, working, without hiding due to her gender role and homosexuality. This life story intersects with the activist struggle for human / sexual rights that has taken place in Colombia and with the comments of politicians, activists, theorists and citizens who perceive the integration of the LGBT community into Pereira society in different ways.Universidad Católica de Pereira.
