It starts with an overview of the theory of mind and some of their frames of explanation in cognitive psychology. The concept of Background, and finally some arguments that support the way in which the theory of mind might be conceived as a background capacity are also explained. The main conclusion consists in stating that both theory of the mind and background ability refer to types of knowledge, which constitute themselves in conditions of possibility for individuals’ mental life, and for the relationship with the other.Este texto pretende mostrar posibles relaciones entre la teoría de la mente, propuesta por Ángel Rivière, y el concepto de Trasfondo, planteado en la filosofía de la mente por Jhon Searle. Se parte de una descripción general de la teoría de la mente y algunos de sus marcos de explicación en psicología cognitiva; posteriormente se explica el concepto de Trasfondo, y finalmente se exponen algunos argumentos que sustentan la manera en que la teoría de la mente podría ser concebida como una capacidad de trasfondo.
