The article is based on the recognition that today's world increasingly demands both technical skills and sensitivity to and knowledge of the physical, environmental, socio-cultural, economic and political contexts in which we live. The article posits that these demands must shape the content of academic programs in architecture in order to allow them to offer an integral educationLa necesidad de reconocer en el contexto global, la participación y el liderazgo que tienen las escuelas de arquitectura en el ámbito académico, hace indispensable para el programa de Arquitectura de la Universidad Católica Popular del Risaralda conocer las nuevas tendencias y emprender una reflexión sobre las discusiones contemporáneas en la disciplina y el quehacer del profesional. El artículo muestra una reflexión acerca del compromiso del programa y la institución en torno a las competencias y capacidades que debe afrontar el profesional de la UCPR para servir de apoyo al mejoramiento de las condiciones de vida de los ciudadanos y al enriquecimiento de la cultura local y global, en un mundo que todos los días exige mayor destreza y competitividad, pero al mismo tiempo sensibilidad y conocimiento del contexto físico-ambiental, socio-cultural, económico y político en el que vivimos, desde una posición crítica, humana y ética.
