Biomimicry is the practice of applying the lessons from natural systems in the creation of environmentally friendly technologies. When applied in the field of design, it focuses on understanding, apprehension and emulation strategies used by living things with the intention of generating sustainable solutions. Conventional design methodologies are influenced by accelerated consumption societies, which involve immediate solutions of necessities without a valid projection in the future. As a response, Biomimicry ensures sustainable, extensive and generational development.En este artículo se exponen las premisas de la Biomimética como metodología de diseño alternativa y el resultado de su empleo en la creación de un producto de consumo de tipo sostenible. La Biomimética es la práctica de aplicar las lecciones provenientes de la naturaleza para la concepción de tecnologías amigables con el medio ambiente. Cuando es aplicada en el campo del diseño, se enfoca en el entendimiento, la aprehensión y la emulación de estrategias utilizadas por seres vivos con la intención de generar soluciones sostenibles. Las metodologías de diseño convencionales se encuentran influenciadas por las sociedades aceleradas de consumo, lo cual implica la solución inmediata de necesidades sin proyección en el futuro.
