That way the university teacher became just a science or technology teacher and stop being an educator in the way that function is understood in the other levels of the process (Primary school, secondary school); in the other hand the university student also understood in a limited way the nature and the meaning of the university, his role in it and what he could and must find in it. It is necessary to re-discover the educational function of the university, the present text reflects about the education as the process trough which the human being constructs himself and humanizes himself and also as an irreplaceable duty of the university. This way the concept of “Formation” is proposed as nucleus of the educational process, supported on a clear anthropological vision. This is the perspective that the UCPR has assumed since its creation and the perspective that it reflects about permanently to accomplish his mission. The article picks up some fundamental elements of that conception of its duty and the way in it’s done in the practice.La concentración del quehacer de la universidad en la formación científico-técnica y profesionalizante, condujo a que se redujera su función educativa, en el sentido genuino del término, como posibilitación de procesos de construcción personal. En ese marco, el docente universitario se redujo a ser un profesor de una ciencia o de una tecnología y dejó de ser un educador en el sentido en que se entiende esa función en los otros niveles del proceso (primaria, secundaria); por su lado, el estudiante universitario comprendió también limitadamente el carácter y el sentido de la universidad, de su papel en ella y de lo que en ella podía y debía encontrar. Es necesario redescubrir la función educativa de la Universidad; el presente artículo reflexiona sobre la educación como el proceso mediante el cual el ser humano se (auto) construye y se humaniza e igualmente como una tarea irrenunciable de la universidad. En este sentido, se propone el concepto de “formación” como núcleo del proceso educativo, soportado sobre una clara visión antropológica. Ésta es la perspectiva que ha asumido la UCPR desde su creación y sobre la que reflexiona constantemente con miras al cumplimiento de su misión.
