Thus, physical and moral cleanliness was taken at the timeas the axe of progress in a city that was then having serious problems in theprovision of health and public services, which went in parallel with a significanteconomic development.Se tiene por objeto analizar la relación entre el pensamiento higienista de la época y los ideales de civilización que tuvieron lugar en la Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Manizales, durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. El higienismo como dispositivo sociobiológico y de control social, sirvió a la entidad como mecanismo para llegar al progreso anhelado.
