El objetivo principal de esta investigación ha sido indagar por las causas que impiden el aprendizaje de las matemáticas en los estudiantes de grado sexto de la Institución Educativa Técnico Industrial Gustavo Jiménez. Se empleó una metodología para analizar desde lo cualitativo y cuantitativo los factores que inciden en el aprendizaje. Las encuestas se aplicaron a los estudiantes, docentes y padres de familia. La encuesta evidencio algunas dificultades como: el poco acompañamiento de los padres de familia en el desarrollo del proceso académico a sus hijos, la falta de autodisciplina por parte de los estudiantes y el empleo de una metodología tradicional por parte de los docentes. Posteriormente se aplicaron talleres didácticos para incentivar el pensamiento crítico a partir del aprendizaje autónomo. En el desarrollo de los mismos se observa que los estudiantes pueden adquirir el conocimiento creando hábitos de responsabilidad y de formación autónoma. Finalmente en la interpretación de los datos se establece que el uso de material didáctico es indispensable. Se recomienda fortalecer el aprendizaje autónomo desde la didáctica para la enseñanza de las matemáticas y como elemento estructural de la formación integral del estudiante.The learning of the mathematics needs of autonomy in the development of the pedagogic activities to improve the academic performance, based on this the main objective of the research has been to know the problems in the learning mathematics from students in sixth grade of institution Technical Industrial Gustavo Jimenez of Sogamoso. This project corresponds to qualitative and quantitative research which allowed understanding students and their learning process. On the other hand, the analysis of the surveys and workshop applied to students, teachers and parents have demonstrated the students’ difficulties in the learning mathematics, the lack of accompaniment from parents in the process, the lack of students’ auto-discipline and the use of traditional methodology from teachers. Many workshops were applied to stimulate students’ motivation and their critical thought. At the same time was observed that it is possible to acquire the knowledge following teacher´s instructions and teaching to be responsible and autonomous.
