Durante el embarazo, el cuerpo de la mujer atraviesa una serie de adaptaciones fisiológicas, metabólicas y hormonales cuyo objetivo principal es permitir el desarrollo adecuado del feto y preservar la salud materna. Estas modificaciones impactan múltiples sistemas del organismo y se manifiestan de manera progresiva a lo largo de los tres trimestres de la gestación. Desde una perspectiva bioquímica, el embarazo representa una condición de alta demanda energética, con cambios en la utilización de los macronutrientes (proteínas, carbohidratos y lípidos), así como en el requerimiento y metabolismo de micronutrientes esenciales como el hierro, calcio, folato, vitamina D, entre otros. Paralelamente, el sistema endocrino experimenta variaciones importantes, con aumentos significativos de hormonas como la progesterona, los estrógenos, la hCG, la prolactina, la insulina y la leptina, que regulan múltiples funciones metabólicas |

Estas modificaciones impactan múltiples sistemas del organismo y se manifiestan de manera progresiva a lo largo de los tres trimestres de la gestación. Desde una perspectiva bioquímica, el embarazo representa una condición de alta demanda energética, con cambios en la utilización de los macronutrientes (proteínas, carbohidratos y lípidos), así como en el requerimiento y metabolismo de micronutrientes esenciales como el hierro, calcio, folato, vitamina D, entre otros.
