Methods Medical attention injuries, time-loss injuries and dance exposure hours of 123 professional ballet dancers (women: n=66, age: 28.0±8.3 years; men: n=57, age: 27.9±8.5 years) were prospectively recorded between the 2015/2016 and 2019/2020 seasons. Results The incidence rate (per 1000 hours) of medical attention injury was 3.9 (95% CI 3.3 to 4.4) for women and 3.1 (95% CI 2.6 to 3.5) for men. The incidence rate (per 1000 hours) of time-loss injury was 1.2 (95% CI 1.0 to 1.5) for women and 1.1 (95% CI 0.9 to 1.3) for men. First Soloists and Principals experienced between 2.0–2.2 additional medical attention injuries per 1000 hours and 0.9–1.1 additional time-loss injuries per 1000 hours compared with Apprentices (p≤0.025). Further, intraseason differences were observed in medical attention, but not time-loss, injury incidence rates with the highest incidence rates in early (August and September) and late (June) season months. Thirty-five per cent of time-loss injuries resulted in over 28 days of modified dance training. A greater percentage of time-loss injuries were classified as overuse (women: 50%; men: 51%) compared with traumatic (women: 40%; men: 41%). Conclusion This is the first study to report the incidence rate of medical attention and time-loss injuries in professional ballet dancers. Incidence rates differed across company ranks and months, which may inform targeted injury prevention strategies.Ciencias Médicas y de la Salud8 papplication/pdfhttp://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bjsports-2020-1038171473-04800306-3674https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/handle/001/6606engReino Unido8501584355Mattiussi AM, Shaw JW, Williams S, et alInjury epidemiology in professional ballet: a five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuriesBritish Journal of Sports Medicine 2021;55:843-850.ScopusBritish Journal of Sports Medicine© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2021info:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessAtribución-NoComercial 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-NC 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbhttps://bjsm.bmj.com/content/55/15/843Injury epidemiology in professional ballet: A five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuriesArtículo de revistahttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Textinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85Todas las AudienciasPublicationORIGINALInjury epidemiology in professional ballet. a five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuries.pdfInjury epidemiology in professional ballet. a five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuries.pdfapplication/pdf241620https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/bb55a70c-5c35-4be9-8bad-be607f85c663/download39224d43a942ce6f35ea5b0ef27d915eMD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-859https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/1be5925f-b8bf-4a59-8139-ff6d2dea53ae/download38d94cf55aa1bf2dac1a736ac45c881cMD52TEXTInjury epidemiology in professional ballet. a five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuries.pdf.txtInjury epidemiology in professional ballet. a five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuries.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain5https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/de878df1-3c34-4a16-a192-61bdfd30ca19/download5dbe86c1111d64f45ba435df98fdc825MD53THUMBNAILInjury epidemiology in professional ballet. a five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuries.pdf.jpgInjury epidemiology in professional ballet. a five-season prospective study of 1596 medical attention injuries and 543 time-loss injuries.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg6853https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/b5c98778-bdc0-4866-ba0b-14736706820b/download0b0e7a3d75d6cb7fa669155106e4d68bMD54001/6606oai:repositorio.udes.edu.co:001/66062023-10-09 18:04:34.626https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2021https://repositorio.udes.edu.coRepositorio Universidad de Santandersoporte@metabiblioteca.comTGljZW5jaWEgZGUgUHVibGljYWNpw7NuIFVERVMKRGlyZWN0cmljZXMgZGUgVVNPIHkgQUNDRVNPCgo=
