For instance, empirical evidence from some research has indicated that the adoption of certain CE practices has not had positive or significant effects on sustainability performance of manufacturing firms in different countries. Moreover, from a practical perspective, it has been shown that professionals receive little guidance on the effective implementation of the CE in their companies, which results in a high failure rate during its adoption and difficulties in achieving environmental, social, and economic benefits.Se espera que la implementación exitosa de la economía circular (CE en inglés) lleve a las empresas a mejorar su desempeño de la sostenibilidad para apoyar la transición a un sistema económico más deseable. Sin embargo, el conjunto de conocimientos y evidencias sobre el efecto de la CE en el desempeño de sostenibilidad muestra resultados fragmentados y, en algunos casos, contradictorios. Por ejemplo, las pruebas empíricas de algunas investigaciones han indicado que la adopción de determinadas prácticas de la CE no ha tenido efectos positivos o significativos en los resultados de sostenibilidad de las empresas manufactureras de distintos países.
