Consideraciones bioéticas en torno a la práctica contemporánea de la ¿Terapia Electroconvulsiva con Anestesia y Relajación (TECAR)¿ en el paciente con condiciones en salud mental gravesTerapia electroconvulsivaDescargas eléctricasPsiquiatríaBioética65 Páginas.La terapia electroconvulsiva (TE), también conocida como terapia de ¿electrochoque¿, es un tratamiento psiquiátrico biológico (diferente de los psicofármacos y de otras modalidades terapéuticas usadas en psiquiatría) que consiste en introducir una descarga eléctrica a través del pericráneo y, con ello, inducir una convulsión con propósitos terapéuticos en ambientes clínicos controlados (Stefanazzi, 2013). Se trata de un procedimiento médico que se realiza con un promedio calculado de 1.000.000 de pacientes/año alrededor del mundo, de 100.000 pacientes/año solo en los Estados Unidos y, de 100.000 pacientes/año solo en una ciudad española (Bernardo & Urretavizcaya, 2015; Prudic & Duan, 2017; Ruiz Piñera, 2007). Desde un punto de vista histórico se constituye en el tratamiento somático más antiguo ¿ que persiste en su aplicación hasta la fecha ¿ para múltiples condiciones psiquiátricas y que se realiza con indicaciones clínicas precisas a la luz de la ¿medicina basada en la evidencia¿ (J.- O. Ottosson, 2004; Weiner & Reti, 2017), tendencia esta, bien intencionada, de naturaleza y tono metodológico riguroso, pero falible y contingente.
