| Summary: | The Bible has been one of the most influential texts in history. Chapter 53 of the Book of Isaiah is a prophecy that emphasizes the redemptive role of Jesus, employing specialized vocabulary that is challenging for 8–9-year-old students to understand—especially when memorizing it in English, their second language. To address this, an action research project was conducted with the aim of teaching the content and vocabulary of this biblical chapter. A mixed-methods approach was employed, incorporating both probabilistic and descriptive data. Analysis of pre-tests and post-tests across each cycle revealed that student performance improved progressively over time. The study concluded that contextualizing the Bible and providing opportunities to integrate multiple representations—such as using a comic— enhanced students’ ability to paraphrase specialized vocabulary. |
