Evaluation of two educational strategies in the development of exchange transfusion skills in pediatric residents: Randomized clinical trial

Background: Exchange transfusion is a highly complex and low-frequency procedure that requires advanced technical skill. Pediatric residents often lack adequate training opportunities owing to the limited availability of clinical cases. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of two education...

Pediatric residents often lack adequate training opportunities owing to the limited availability of clinical cases. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of two educational strategies, simulation and a digital learning environment, in developing exchange transfusion competencies among pediatric residents. Methods: A single-blind, parallel, randomized clinical trial was conducted with simple random allocation to one of two educational interventions. Pediatric residents of accredited medical schools in Colombia were included in this study. The primary outcome was performance on the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), with passing defined as a score ≥85%. The effect of the interventions was assessed using the chi-squared test of independence or Fisher’s exact test, as appropriate. Multivariate analysis was performed using a nonconditional logistic regression model.Especialista en PediatríaEspecializaciónUniversidad de La SabanaEspecialización en PediatríaFacultad de Medicina2026-03-09T14:51:54Z2025-10-30Tesis/Trabajo de grado - Especializaciónhttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fTextoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/otherhttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/COtherinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersion29 páginasapplication/pdfapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttps://hdl.handle.net/10818/68475enghttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Atribución-NoComercial 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-NC 4.0)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ecMaldonado Calderón, María JoséMaldonado Calderón, María JoséAgudelo Peréz, Sergio IvánAgudelo Pérez, Sergio IvánGiraldo, KatherineAgudelo Pérez, Sergio IvánJimenez Bernal, Paola AndreaMaldonado Calderón, María JoséMaldonado Calderón, María JoséMaldonado Calderón, María JoséMaldonado Calderón, María JoséMaldonado Calderón, María JoséMaldonado Calderón, María Joséoai:intellectum.unisabana.edu.co:10818/684752026-04-16T20:52:38Z
