At the same time, direct existential experience from the Second World War as well as with the totalitarian ideologies that marked the 20th century was of crucial importance for his understanding of the problem of humanism. Pirjevec developed his key philosophical insights mainly in his studies on the European novel ranging from Cervantes to Robbe-Grillet, following the basic existential orientation that it is necessary, before any (revolutionary) attempt to assert the ideas of “new humanity,” to recognize the human ethos.En su reflexión acerca de la crisis del humanismo, el teórico literario y filósofo esloveno Dušan Pirjevec parte de la critica a la orientación humanista representada por los filósofos postestructuralistas de la década de 1960, pero aborda el problema del “fin del humanismo” de una manera mucho más compleja a la luz del nihilismo de la época del mundo. La experiencia existencial directa de la segunda guerra mundial, así como de las ideologías totalitarias que marcaron el siglo XX, fue de crucial importancia en su comprensión del problema del humanismo.
