The study found that there is not a clear idea in Industrial sector in Boyacá of the existence of the Industrial design as a profession.  No one has a notion about its role or its strategic value, neither related to productivity nor to business competitiveness. This finding is a diagnostic tool as well as an analysis tool for establishing the impact of the discipline in the business sector in the region.El  presente  artículo  es  el  resultado  de  una investigación  cualitativa  realizada  entre  los  años 2008 y 2010,   cuyo objetivo ha   sido conocer    la percepción  por parte de las empresas boyacenses hacia el Diseño  Industrial. El objeto de estudio  lo conforman  empresas  de  las  ciudades  de  Tunja, Duitama y Sogamoso con sus respectivas zonas de influencia. El estudio estableció que   en el Sector Industrial de Boyacá no se tiene una idea clara   de la  existencia del Diseño  Industrial como profesión, no se tiene una noción de  su función o de su valor estratégico, no se relaciona con  la productividad, ni  con  la  competitividad    empresarial.  Este hallazgo  sería una herramienta de diagnóstico y análisis, el mismo que permitiría aproximarse a la pertinencia del programa académico, así como al conocimiento del impacto de la disciplina en el sector empresarial de  la  región.   Palabras  clave: Diseño  Industrial,  aplicación, impacto, competitividad.AbstractThis  article  is  the  result of  a qualitative  research done  between  2008  and  2010  whose  goals  are knowing the perceptions of Boyaca companies to the  Industrial Design.   The object of  the study  is conformed  by  companies    from  Tunja,  Duitama and Sogamoso with their areas of   influence.
