Summary:The investigation Data, indicators, information and knowledge of innovation in Colombia (agreement between Universities: EAFIT, Surcolombiana, Tecnológica de Bolivar and Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia), presents evidences of innovation in a group of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of Boyacá. Furthermore, it examines best practices of innovation (BPI) in groupsrepresentative of SMEs: producing goods(agribusiness, manufacturing, textile and clothing industry) and the other group consists of service providers (in the areas of tourism, ICT, health and transport), located in the cities of Tunja, Paipa, Duitama and Sogamoso. Innovation profiles made by managers and entrepreneurs about innovative practicesin products orservices, processes, management and marketing, show that all of the SMES are, mostly, in a takeoff or development stage, with significant gaps in the four types of innovation that were considered
