The purpose of this article is to analyse the importance of the press as a documental source for the study of political and cultural history based on experiences of historiographic research into the 20th century in Colombia. First, there is an attempt to unveil the meaning and reach of the liberal and conservative press in the 30s and 40s. Then, an attempt is made to show the treatment the press made regarding student demonstrations in the 60s and 70s of the 20th century. Both contrasts will allow the recognition of the evolution and uses of the press as a mediator of public opinion and documental heritage for analysis and social investigation, especially for the study of local and national history. For this reason, there are references to the study of the press through frame analysis, which allows understanding and accounting for the conscious strategic efforts carried out by certain groups of people in order to construct shared interpretations of the world that motivate collective action. |

For this reason, there are references to the study of the press through frame analysis, which allows understanding and accounting for the conscious strategic efforts carried out by certain groups of people in order to construct shared interpretations of the world that motivate collective action.El propósito de este artículo es analizar la importancia de la prensa como fuente documental para el estudio de la historia política y cultural a partir de experiencias de investigación historiográfica sobre el siglo XX en Colombia en las cuales se ha recurrido a esta como fuente de interpretación. En primer lugar, se propone desvelar el sentido y alcance de la prensa liberal y conservadora en los años treinta y cuarenta; en segundo lugar, mostrar el tratamiento que la prensa hizo sobre las movilizaciones estudiantiles en los años sesenta y setenta del siglo XX. Los dos contrastes permitirán reconocer la evolución y usos de la prensa como mediadora de opinión pública y como acervo documental para el análisis y la investigación social, especialmente para el estudio de la historia local y nacional del país. Para ello, se hace referencia al estudio de la prensa a través del «análisis de marcos», el cual permite entender y dar cuenta de los esfuerzos estratégicos conscientes realizados por ciertos grupos de personas para construir interpretaciones compartidas del mundo que motivan la acción colectiva.Le but de cet article est d’analyser l’importance de la presse en tant que source pour l’étude de l’histoire politique et culturelle. Nous nous intéressons notamment à des expériences de recherche historiographique à propos du XXe siècle colombien construites à partir de publications périodiques. D’abord, nous voulons dévoiler le sens et l’impact de la presse libérale et conservatrice des années 1930 et 1940 ; ensuite, nous nous efforçons de montrer comment la presse du pays a traité les mobilisations étudiantes des années 1960 et 1970. Le contraste résultant permettra de reconnaître l’évolution et les usages de la presse en tant que médiatrice d’opinion publique et en tantque corpus essentiel à l’analyse et à la recherche sociale, et en particulier à l’écriture de l’histoire locale et nationale.
