description	This paper explores the land tenure and land use dynamics in Cauca River Valley’s haciendas throughout the second half of the 19th century, based on cases in the basin of the Amaime River, Cauca River’s tributary. With the aim to challenge the narrative of social and economic stagnation created about this region, this study analyzes the dynamics of spatial transformation in selected landed states, revealing their systematic spatial and productive transformation in line with the historical process of nineteenth-century liberalism. For which diverse primary sources were consulted, including correspondence letters, historical cartographies and notarial documents. The use of a Historic Geographical Information System allowed to georeference notarial data to analyze and display land tenure spatial changes within the frame of study. The cases of the haciendas La Concepción and La Torre show, from opposite trajectories, that since the 1850s significant processes of productive reorientation and social diversification took place in this valley.

Con la intención de complejizar la narrativa de estancamiento productivo y espacial creada sobre esta región, acá se analizan las dinámicas de transformación espacial en determinadas haciendas, evidenciando así su sistemática mutación espacial y productiva durante el proceso histórico de liberalismo decimonónico. Para esto se consultaron diferentes fuentes documentales, incluyendo correspondencia, cartografía histórica y documentos notariales. El uso de un sistema de información geográfico histórico permitió georreferenciar datos notariales para el análisis y la visualización espacial de cambios en la tenencia de la tierra dentro de la ventana de estudio. Los casos de las haciendas La Concepción y La Torre demuestran, desde trayectorias diferentes, que a partir de la década de 1850 se dieron procesos significativos de reorientación productiva y diversificación social en el Valle.Este artigo explora a dinâmica de posse e uso da terra no Vale do Rio Cauca durante a segunda metade do século XIX, com base em casos localizados na bacia do rio Amaime, afluente do Cauca. Com a intenção de complexificar a narrativa de estagnação produtiva e espacial criada sobre essa região, aqui é analisada a dinâmica da transformação espacial em determinadas fazendas, evidenciando sua sistemática mudança espacial e produtiva durante o processo histórico do liberalismo do século XIX. Para isto foram consultadas diferentes fontes documentais, incluindo correspondência, cartografia histórica e documentos notariais. O uso de um Sistema de Informações Geográficas Históricas permitiu georeferenciar dados notariais para a análise e visualização espacial de mudanças na posse da terra dentro do marco de estudo.
